Brown’s Ferry Four was formed in of WLW Radio Station in Cincinnati, Ohio during the 1940’s. WLW needed to fill a 30 minute time-slot. The Delmore Brothers, Grandpa Jones, Merle Travis & Red Foley had been playing Gospel Songs with each other in the Hallway waiting on their turn to go on their show. It was a spur of the moment decision to put these artists together to fill that time-slot! The name Brown’s Ferry Four came from a road in Athens, AL, that the Delmore Brothers had lived on. This group became the inspiration for the Hee Haw Gospel Quartet. They eventually recorded 4 dozen sides for King Records between 1946-1952. The group ended when Rabon passed away.
